TROUBLE-FREE AND ON TIME
Second rebuild phase at Mpact Felixton has been successfully completed. The extensive investment in the latest machine technology enables the paper mill to increase its product diversity and competitiveness.

Mpact is a JSE-listed plastics and paper packaging manufacturer, with 41 operating sites in South Africa, Namibia and Mozambique, of which 22 are manufacturing operations.
After positive experiences in the past, Mpact had again opted for the Niefern modernization specialist for its current modernization of the PM 3 with the project name Khulisa, which is Zulu for the term ‘to grow’.
The production volume of PM 3 should be increased by 60,000 tpy to 215,000 tpy as Mpact Felixton migrates furnish from Bagasse to a recycled paper base. In addition to further quality improvement, a key outcome of the project was to increase paper strength properties. The phase 1 of the project Khulisa included the installation of a TURBOVaahtoJetter headbox to improve formation and cross-direction profile as well as a TURBOFeeder for safe tail transfer. Mpact successfully commissioned the second project phase in July 2017. This part of the rebuild included the installation of a new top wire section with another TURBOVaahtoJetter headbox for further quality improvement and the added flexibility of a second ply. To achieve increased paper strength, a TURBOFilmSizer, including Airturn, has been installed. The drying area was optimised by redesigning the dryer groups and the installation of sheet stabilising equipment from Bellmer.
