Saving operating costs reliably with demanding sludges
The Hessian town of Heppenheim’s sewage treatment plant has a tough job. Mixed sludge from anaerobic stabilized sludge with the addition of flotation sludge as well as abrasive lime sludge from the water works - they all have to be dewatered. A TurboDrain for sludge thickening had been performing this challenging task satisfactorily for a many years, but the time had come to replace the outdated sludge dewatering unit. Heppenheim’s management went out to tender and was presented with various concepts. As a result of this process, Bellmer was awarded the order for a new WinklePress™ WP Green 2 KS including a high-pressure zone offering the highest final dry contents and low operating costs. The unit was commissioned at the end of last year and has been operating to the customer’s complete satisfaction ever since. Mr. Geyer, commercial manager, and Dr. Hettler, technical manager of the Heppenheim plant, are full of praise for the new dewatering technology. They are confident that Heppenheim’s municipal works are now well equipped for one of the most demanding stages of waste water treatment with operator-friendly machinery, providing a reliable and customer-focused service. Sludge dewatering provides a practical example of the highly automated nature of modern sewage treatment plants and also shows how jobs in this sector are desirable and operator-friendly. The first months in operation have proved that the decision to choose Bellmer was the right one.
